New Hardy County Planner Brings Cooperative Approach to Planning


You can’t make good decisions without good data,” Melissa Scott said. “We need to learn what is logical and keep planning logical.”

Scott is the new Hardy County Planner. She was hired last month and has been on the job a total of about two weeks.

Scott grew up in Greenbrier County and went to college at Concord University. She majored in geography and minored in art.

“The art got me interested in mapping,” she said. “It was the early 1990s and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) was just starting. I interned with engineering firms and county governments.”
