Exercise Held to Test Emergency Capabilities

Emergency Exercise

On Saturday, Sept. 14, an exercise was held to engage responders in a simulated event of an emergency regarding a satellite crash incident. “SAT Down” was the acronym for the exercise. There are many satellites that orbit the earth each day. This exercise was to simulate the unplanned break up of a satellite upon reentry into earth’s atmosphere and emergency response to such an event.

This event involved a large geographic area including many jurisdictions as a “real life” situation would likely entail. Counties participating included: Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan, and Pendleton. Local departments, agencies and entities
