Commissioner Continues Vendetta Against Preacher

By Jean A. Flanagan
Moorefield Examiner –

In a continuing effort to retaliate against a local pastor, Hardy County Commissioner J. Michael Teets asked Prosecuting Attorney Lucas See to investigate Ovid Need’s tax exempt status.

Need is pastor of the Providence Baptist Church in Bean’s Settlement, a daughter church to Providence Baptist Church in Harrisonburg, Va. The church services at Providence Baptist Church in Bean’s Settlement are held in Need’s home.

At a previous meeting of the Hardy County Commission, Teets attempted to dismiss Need from the list of poll workers, “because he doesn’t pay taxes,” he said.

Need is one of five petitioners requesting Teets and another commissioner be removed from office because of misconduct, malfeasance and incompetence.

According to WV Code §11-3-9, a place of divine worship and the parsonage are exempt from property taxes.
